A Faith-Filled Vision
My years as a Lay Pastoral Minister gave me the opportunity to work closely with Catholic schools, students, families and chaplains throughout Waterloo Region.
I worked with St. Paul Elementary School, St. Francis Elementary School, Resurrection Catholic Secondary School and chaplains serving Resurrection CSS, St. Mary's High School, Monsignor Doyle Catholic Secondary School and St. David Catholic Secondary School.
I helped plan school Masses and liturgical celebrations and worked with students and families preparing for the Sacraments of Baptism, First Eucharist and Confirmation. I also led a few liturgical services for the Board Office.
These experiences have given me a strong understanding of the important relationship between our Catholic schools, our parishes, our families and the broader Catholic community.

Putting Students First
Student achievement and student well-being must remain at the centre of decision-making.
At the same time, Catholic education has a broader purpose: helping young people develop their gifts, grow in faith and become contributing members of their families, communities and the wider world.
The Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations provide an important foundation for this work. They challenge our students to become:
These expectations, together with the Waterloo Catholic District School Board's strategic plan and its goals of Learning, Serving and Belonging, provide a framework for what Catholic education should strive to accomplish.
Trustees have a responsibility to model these values as well as encourage them in our students.
If we are not modelling these behaviours ourselves, how can we expect our students to learn and live them in their own lives?
I believe that a strong commitment to our Catholic Graduate Expectations and our Board's strategic priorities can help students grow in faith, develop respect for one another and become caring family members and responsible citizens.
